What I'm Reading Now
This is a book about daily life in Victorian England.
It is very interesting, and un-hoity toity.
It starts in the nursery, and goes through each room, encompassing function, decoration and cleaning of the room, daily activities of the occupants, and also describes social restraints on females, dress, diet, etc etc. But mostly, it's an account of just how filthy people and their homes were at the time.
The most disturbing part to me was the mention of the "living carpet" of bugs in kitchens. It made me want to take a shower.

Ooh, I must order this book. I love domestic history.
Also adore the PBS "House" series - Pioneer House, Victorian House, etc. Brilliant. I love seeing modern women strap on corsets and have to haul water.
Then you'll love this book. Another really good one is "The Rise And Fall Of The Domestic Servant" by Pamela Horn. I've had it for years, and still find it interesting.
I love those PBS "House" series as well. They're a real wake up call to what life was really like - when I get into one of those romantic "Little House on the Prairie" moods.
Another interesting book if you're into that sort of thing is 'America's Women - 400 Years of Dolls, Drudges, Helpmates and Heroines' by Gail Collins(although I know you're a Canadian girl).
