Grand Manan!

We're back! A day early, because of bad weather today (Sunday.) Grand Manan has breathtaking scenery, but not much else.
Peter and I were supposed to do a whale watching tour this morning, but it was cancelled because of the weather, so we left a day early. We consoled ourselves (me) by stopping into St. Andrews and hitting the souvenir shops and having a very nice meal.

Grand Manan is gorgeous! I would love to have a cottage on it, but I don't think I could live there year round. There's no movie theatre, no Tim Horton's, etc. Plus, since there's only one doctor on the island who stopped taking new patients some time ago, many islanders have to go to the mainland to for doctor appointments. You also can't give birth on the island.

How can they stop you from giving birth? I wish someone stopped me!
And no Tim Hortons? Holy. Time to find new terrain. Beautiful it is, but no Timmy's? Not fit for humans.

I love lighthouses! (you can ask Karen - my house is overcome with them...Not real ones, of course..) Can't give birth?? What do you do? Just "hold it in" until you get to the mainland?

Very nice, I absolutely love the coast, preferrably east coast, but I will take west too. Nice to get away huh? Have a good week. Your off this week, if my memory serves me right?

Karen : our waitress said everyone leaves the island about a week before their due date.

Rogue: ONE small little Save Easy and a couple of convenience stores are the only place to do your grocery shopping...not much selection. Plus, if I knew I couldn't get a donut, I'd want them all the time and lose my mind.

Darlene: I'm a lighthouse freak, too! When I'm 65 I'm going to be one of those crazy Red Hatters on a lighthouse bus tour, wearing a lighthouse sweatshirt and lighthouse earrings and carrying a lighthouse bag.

Schell: I would love to visit northern California one day. I like watching "The Fog" and "Play Misty For Me" just for the Pacific coast scenery.

Rosie: There isn't a lot to do, but if you're into hiking and biking and ocean views, it's great. I'd be happy to go someday by myself and just hike and sit on the veranda and read and cross stitch.

What a gorgeous picture! I can see why you pondered the notion of living there.

Oh man! You are right Grand Manan is lovely. I was up there a year ago in June. My friends are dingbats...they checked the ferry sched and swore there was a reaturn ferry later in the afternoon. Uh, no....we ended up spending the night in one the little strip motels. It happened to be on one of the hottest days of the year so we sat outside and chatted all night. I had a great time. It would be a nice place to spend a month on vacation...but I agree, I couldn't live there year round. I hope you don't mind me stopping by your blog.
