The Boy And I Watched "A Sesame Street Christmas Carol" Last Night
The Ghost of Christmas Past showed Oscar an old Bert and Ernie "Gifts Of The Magi" story.
Bert wanted to buy Ernie a soapdish for his rubber duckie. Ernie wanted to get Bert a cigar box for his paper clip collection.
Bert traded Mr. Hooper his paper clips for the soapdish, and Ernie traded him his rubber duckie for the cigar box.
They opened their presents on Christmas Eve, and when the whole thing was beginning to dawn on them, Mr. Hooper came over with Christmas presents for them... and of course, he gave Ernie his rubber duckie, and Bert his paper clip collection.
I didn't just tear up, I boo-hooed, tears and all.

Yah know, Mr Booper, I mean Mr Hooper....lol, that was a Big Bird moment there....anyway, Mr Hooper was my favorite person on the show. When he passed away, I was so torn up. When I see old clips of him I get emotional, so I would have been tearing up with you. Some years ago, I saw a clip of the episode that they told Big Bird that Mr Hooper passed away. For days after it, I would cry everytime I thought of it.
I was hooked on that show...it was like kiddie crack to me. I remember fighting with my Uncle Randy because he wanted to watch Happy Days and I insisted on watching Sesame Street for the second time that day. Remeber it was on at noon and 6 PM back in 1975.
I loved Sesame Street when I was a kid. I still have my stuffed Grover and Oscar from when I was a kid, stuffed in a closet in my old room at my parent's house. I got Oscar for Christmas one year, and I distinctly remember my mother telling me I got him because I was a grouch, too!
I also remember the Count made me a little bit nervous.
We never really watched Sesame Street here. Every once in a while the kids would turn it on. Just never got into it. It sounds like a tear jerky though.

You're getting a soap dish for Christmas.
It totally made me SO SAD when Mr. Hooper died. It shook up my world! I think I would have busted a tear duct watching that!
