Book Club Last Night

Look at what a suckup I am. We did "The Birth House," my favourite new book this year, at my book club last night.
I got the author to send autographed bookplates for everyone, and I made the recipe for the "groaning cake" in the book for everyone to try!
I was very popular last night.

Is this a picture of your book club at home, or Netter's ladies? It's Friday,,,, hope you have a great weekend. How's your quilt coming along?

These are the ladies in Moncton. Netter's is an on-line thing.
I have tonight off, so I'm hoping to get some more sewing done on the latest block, but I have a feeling my evening is going to consist of my ass on the couch in front of CSI. Not that that's a bad thing!

So, what goes on in a book club anyway? Other than eating cake. Are their fights over interpretations of the book?

The mermaid book is depressing me.

After the book chat and the cake, they break out the gin. Around 11:45 comes the drunken calls to the spouses, partners etc. "Come get me. Bring bail money ... and dry clothes, ...hic".

Mostly we just sit and gossip. It's a lot of fun. The average age in my group is about 50 or so, so I'm the youngest by far. Last night they started talking about hot flashes.

Hey, I want to join the book club, because I want to eat cake, drink gin & come home all liquored up.

I think that's a very cool way to celebrate a book!

I'm in, except I'd skip the cake.

I think our online book club should have a rule declairing that we must "eat cake, drink gin or Elk Creek Water...which by the way often contains gin....and get all liquored up while Instant Messaging each other." However, I have a feeling certain people in the group can't hold thier booze and I don't even want to think about how many keyboards they would have to replace.

By the way, was the cake good?

Actually, it was quite tasty. It'd be excellent with some fat and calorie-laden cream cheese icing.
